Description
Local legend claims the spirit of a man, believed to be a former stone mason who died by falling to his death during construction, resides here. The story goes that two immigrants of Swedish descent were hired to build a bell tower. When construction was just over half way complete the pair seem to have disappeared. At the time the unfinished tower was capped with a roof and used as a study. During that time there were reports of unembodied banging noises. When construction resumed years later, workers reported the same unembodied banging noises and also unembodied whispering. It reached a point where workers refused to continue until one suggested building a small room for the unknown spirit. After the small room was built the majority of activity stopped and construction was finally completed. Many years passed and a man approached the pastor of the church one day. Supposedly this man claimed to be one of the original stonemasons who began construction on the tower. He confessed that his partner had slipped fallen to his death. In fear that he would be charged as responsible for the death, he sealed the body in one section of wall and left.
