Description
The Moody family obtained the property over a decade after the Civil War. In 1888, the property was completely destroyed by a fire. It is worth noting the current owners deny any spiritual activity at this location. Local legend claims the owners of the slave plantation were murdered in their beds by slaves freed after the civil war. The slaves were taking revenge for the extremely cruel treatment they had endured from their former masters. The murderous slaves were then hunted down by local residents and hung in front of the Moody Brick. However, there is also a local legend that the Moody Brick was used as a hospital during the civil war and burnt down by the Union army on their march through Alabama. It is unlikely the former plantation owners would be living in a burned down home, just as it is unlikely the Union army would have burned down a hospital still in use. Perhaps the 1888 fire was confused with Civil War times, or perhaps this property has had more than one devastating fire.
