Description
Bill Sketoe was hung by the Confederate Home Guard for deserting his post. The rope was not done properly and left Bill dangling but with his neck intact and still able to breath. So the soldiers dug a hole beneath his feet until he finally strangled to death. The botched hanging created a stir amongst locals who noticed the hole could not be filled. If you tried to fill the hole, over night the hole would be empty again. Due to flooding in the 1990’s, the entire area is now covered in tons of rock.
