Description
Local legend claims a yellowish orb of light that appears on the railroad tracks, known as the Gurdon Spook Light is the spirit of a railroad worker who was struck by a train and decapitated. There are also reports that it is a railroad worker who was beaten to death by other workers competing for wages. However the railroad worker met his end, the light is believed to be the spirit carrying a lantern, searching for his head. Take Exit I-30 to Highway 53 towards Gurdon. As you enter the city, turn right. On the right, follow the dirt road before the railroad tracks until come to a circular parking area. Follow the tracks to the right (west) for about a mile. It is between the 4th and 7th trestles that the light is seen.
