Description
Built from 1898 to 1902, there have been reports of the spirit of a lady, who appears to be about 30 years old and believed to be Julia Lowell. Julia who was a prostitute and used the hotel for her clients. As the story goes, she fell in love with on of her clients, and killed herself when he told her that he never wanted to see her again. Julia has been encountered on the second and third floors of the west side of the building. Male staff and guests have claimed Julia whispers in their ear but cannot understand what she is saying, and she likes to play with their feet. She has also been encountered dancing provocatively at the foot of the stairs.
There have been reports of three spirits who can be encountered in the hotel. There have been reports of the spirit of a man, who appears to be an elderly man with long hair and a beard, wearing a top hat and black cape. This spirit most frequently appears in the doorways or shadows of the fourth floor. The smell of cigars occurs before and after this spirit is encountered.
There have also been reports of the spirit of a young boy who is believed to have drown in the San Pedro River, and it is thought his parents or relatives worked at the hotel. Never seen, the spirit of the young boy is believed to be the source of objects moving on their own, the unembodied sounds of children’s footsteps, and the sounds of giggling in the halls.
